Teen Spiritual Formation
The teen group at St. Tim’s is led by the Rector of the church - The Rev. Roger Greene. From trips to the Holy Land to crab soccer in the Parish Hall to service projects that bring the community together, our teens show St. Tim’s what it means to be followers of Jesus.
Our teens are preparing for Confirmation in The Episcopal Church this Fall. The meeting dates are…
Sundays - August 18, September 15, October 20, & November 17
from 10:15am to 12pm in the Teen Room
Date of Confirmation Service TBD
As our teens prepare for the next step in their faith journeys, will you pray for them?
Almighty and everlasting God, let your fatherly hand ever be over these your servants;
let your Holy Spirit ever be with them; and so lead them in the knowledge and obedience of your Word,
that they may serve you in this life, and dwell with you in the life to come;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

From the Rector’s Desk:
Parents of confirmands,
I can’t wait to begin this confirmation journey with your teenagers, beginning August 18, 10:15—12:00pm, (Youth Room across from the kitchen).
Mark 4: 35—41 will govern our journey together. In this text, we are told that after Jesus had been teaching “beside the sea,” he said to his disciples, “Let us go across to the other side.” Where is the other side? The other side is the journey from the Jewish side of the lake to the Gentile side of the lake. Jesus invites his disciples to leave their comfort zone and go to the unfamiliar and threatening. This is a counter-cultural journey. “Crossing over” is required if the disciples are going to help God build the kind of world God wants. Therefore, Jesus is always inviting his disciples to crossover the barriers that divide people, and when they do they discover what life is all about.
Therefore, your teenagers and I and other parent leaders will spend our time together discerning what it means for disciples of Jesus to “crossover to the other side.” Although your kids will learn a lot about what it means to follow Jesus, I will not spend a lot of time pouring information into the heads of these teenagers. Having worked with many of them over the last few years, I am convinced that they already know the Good News of God—that God wants us to breakdown the walls that divide people. Therefore, we will invite them to discern how God is calling them to “crossover” together and help God build a world that includes everybody.
As we discern how God is calling us to crossover, we will develop plans to follow the Spirit’s lead. I have no idea where that will go. For example, some may want to “crossover” to elderly people who are isolated and alone. Some may want to move towards people who don’t have adequate food and coordinate a response to their needs. Some may want find ways to care for God’s creation. We will wait and see where the Spirit leads them.
Finally, although the confirmation meetings begin in August and end in November, this process is about a lifelong journey. This journey does not end with the confirmation service. The confirmation service is their commitment to be part of a community of disciples that with God’s help will follow Jesus to “the other side” for the rest of their lives.
Above is the schedule of meeting dates and participants. Please confirm your child’s participation. If I have mistakenly included your kid on the list, I apologize in advance. If you have a kid who is not on this list, let me know.
I can’t wait to begin this journey.
I will be praying for you and your teens.
Roger
